Because it crashed again (last night I was copying some music after playing it for probably 4 hours straight and then it locked up and refused to turn on). I did the GPU Overheat fix (you use this after doing the X clamp replacement) and it seems to work.

How do you take off the x-clamps on the xbox 360. I’ve taken apart my 360 to fix the red lights but I dont know how to take off the x-clamps. please help.

You just pry them off, insert a screw driver between the X clamp and the board and pry off the clamp. Be careful not to damage the board. Then you drill holes in the metal case and then you can replace the clamps with screws. BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS!!!! This is the reason my 360 went back to RROD, so I had to open it up yet again and loosen them, seems to run fine now.

Great guide, but next time, just wrap your Xbox in one or two towels and turn it on WITH the RROD. Yes, the point is to overheat it. Ten minutes later, turn it off, take it out, and wait two minutes for it to cool. Then turn it on and walla. It happened and worked for me.

Tried that the first day I got the broken thing…it lasted 5 minutes. Tried it again and again, but it wouldn’t last from just the towel trick. That’s why I had to open it up and do the X clamp fix and then overheat it completely by unplugging the fans and running it until it shut itself off.

    Any alternatives to a torque?

Torx drivers are cheap (got a set for $6 at Lowes). You can try jamming a flat screwdriver, pair of pliers, etc. into the screw but a real Torx driver is best.

I hear people saying that the main problem of 360 is GPU located under the DVD drive and heat can’t be released and also heats the DVD. At 8:20 of this video, if I take out the DVD drive without disconnecting the cables and use it as if it’s an external DVD drive thus separate it from GPU, will it prevent overheating? and also At 8:30 of the video without the 360 case, can we still run the game just like how we can run pc without its case?

Your right it was white…hahaha this guy an idiot. Just send your xbox back to Micosoft thats what I did and if they cant fix it they give you a brand new one…free of charge…granted it has to be the first time you sent it in.

It does…b/c there is a little sticker under the face plate that, if removed, voids your warrenty. If your having problems call the Micosoft Support number on the box. They will send you a shipping container and the slips, fix it, and have it back to you in about a week. The fix is free the first time.
