it’s overheating, but if it goes right away into the 2 rings right after start, then it’s a RAM problem. Basically one of the two RAM chips under the heatsink lost a connection with the motherboard, the only way you can fix it now is by reflowing the solder connections with a heat gun. It’s very risky but it works, I had the same problem and the heat gun fix worked for me. It was a last resort for me because I was about to throw my 360 against a wall after trying everything to fix it!

I was always told that if you have a ESD (electronic static discharge) your circuit and chips on the board will get permanently damaged and its beyond repair.

You did not get a RROD from a static discharge or you wouldn’t have been able to repair it with a fix.

i just used goo gone and it was clean in like 2 seconds, but after you use it make sure you get a slightly damp kleenex and wipe it, then dry it with another piece of kleenex as the goo gone will leave an oily surface.

oh sorry my bad, umm i just went to radio shack and got a tube of thermal heat paste, the brand was nexxtech i think, just ask a clerk its like 5 bucks tops. but a very small amount on the chips and spread it over the chip. make sure you dont put to much on or it will just smuther the chip and over heat almost instantly.

thinner is prob the best to clean off the old compound or goo and wont damage the board! you can use alcohol after if desired with q-tip. if you have a small paint brush or (acid brush) that would work well with cleaning!

I used 99% isopropanol alcohol and it seems to work fine. My xbox keeps burning out though. This is the 3rd time in less than 2 months I’ve had to redo it.

im about to open and try my first one tommorow morning and see what it all looks like up close but the cold solder on the micros seems to be the biggest problem! this looks to be a solder pad ic and not the traditional pin chip! the heat gun would prob be the best bet since the unit is not powered on and the micro is not burning itself out decreasing longevity! using a heat gun will prob give you the longest results IMO. i will update when finished with results.
